In our view, the most useful AI agents for a home service company today work in the back office. They chase unpaid invoices, code supplier bills, check Google Ads and Local Services Ads for wasted spend, and watch reviews across every location, with a person approving anything that goes out. We build these to order for HVAC, plumbing, electrical and roofing companies, starting with one workflow at a fixed price quoted after a 30-minute call.
What an agent is here
An agent is software that does one repeat task your office already does by hand. It reads from systems you own, like the AP inbox, your accounting software, your Google Ads account or a report your team exports. It does the work, then puts the result in a queue. A person on your team approves every message before it goes to a customer or supplier, and every change before it's written to your books.
We build each agent for your setup. None of them is an off-the-shelf product: each one is written around your systems, your rules and the people who approve its work.
The agents, and who each one fits
| Agent | What it does | Works from | Who it fits | What we measure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Collections | Sends steady, polite reminders on open invoices, logs promises to pay, flags disputes, and sends a weekly receivables report by brand | Your AR aging from accounting, invoice PDFs, your email | Any company with receivables over 60 days, especially commercial and home-warranty work | Dollars collected from balances over 60 days |
| AP inbox and invoice coding | Reads supplier invoices from the AP inbox, codes them to the right company and account, flags duplicates, and queues them for approval | AP mailbox, your accounting system | Groups with several brands or entities | Share of invoices coded without edits |
| Supplier price checks | Compares supplier invoices to the prices you agreed to and flags increases and missed rebates | Supplier invoices, your price agreements | Shops buying equipment and parts from a few distributors | Overcharges found and credited |
| Ads and Local Services watchdog | Checks Google Ads and Local Services Ads every week for wasted spend, wrong job types and service areas, and leads nobody called back | Your Google Ads account, booked-job counts you export | Anyone spending on Google, brand by brand | Spend on bad leads, cost per booked job |
| Reviews across locations | Watches reviews for every brand and location, drafts replies for approval, and flags complaints that keep coming back | Public review pages, alerts you already get | Multi-location and multi-brand groups | Reply rate and reply time by location |
| Website and Google profile audit | Checks site speed, forms, Google Business Profiles and local pages for each brand, with fixes ranked by what they cost you | Public web data | Groups with acquired brands still on old sites | Issues fixed per brand |
| Weekly scorecard | Revenue, margin, close rate and cash for every location in one weekly report | Exports you already have | Owners running more than one location | Hours saved building the report |
For groups that buy other shops, one more fits the same pattern: a target finder that lists owner-run shops worth buying from state license records, reviews and website signals.
Why the Local Services check matters now
Google says it "no longer supports credits for 'job type not serviced' and 'geo not serviced' leads." If a brand's Local Services profile lists the wrong job types or service area, you pay for those leads and can't get the money back. A weekly check catches the setting before the bill builds up.
What we don't build
We don't build AI phone answering. ServiceTitan, Jobber and Housecall Pro all sell AI that answers calls and books jobs inside the software you already run. If missed calls are your problem, start with your own vendor's add-on.
We don't build anything that grades or records technicians in the field. These are office tools.
We don't connect agents to your field software's API. They work from your accounting system, your inboxes, your Google accounts and reports your own team exports. If your counsel wants to review that setup first, we wait for the review.
How a build works
It starts with a 30-minute call. You tell us which repeat task costs your office the most time or money. We ask what systems hold the data and who on your team would approve the agent's work.
Then we quote a fixed price for one workflow and write down the checks it has to pass on your real data. It only goes live after it passes them. Half is due at kickoff and half at go-live. A person on your team approves every message and every change. Each week you get a short report with the number we agreed to measure, like dollars collected or invoices coded without edits.
After launch, a monthly maintenance plan keeps the agent running: from $500 a month for fixes, up to $2,000 with monitoring and small changes.
FAQ
Is AI going to take HVAC jobs?
Not the field jobs, going by current projections. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects HVAC mechanic and installer employment to grow 11% from 2025 to 2035, with about 40,600 openings a year. The agents on this page do office work, and every one of them hands its output to a person for approval.
Is there an AI for HVAC companies?
Yes, several kinds. Field software like ServiceTitan, Jobber and Housecall Pro now sells AI call answering. Building-controls AI, from companies like BrainBox AI, adjusts HVAC systems in commercial buildings to cut energy use. The agents on this page handle office work like collections, invoices and ad spend checks.
How are contractors using AI?
The biggest software vendors are selling AI for calls and booking. The office tasks with the clearest payoff are the ones with a number attached: unpaid invoices, supplier overcharges and wasted ad spend. Those are where we'd start.
How can artificial intelligence be used in HVAC systems?
On the equipment side, AI controls adjust heating and cooling in buildings to save energy. BrainBox AI sells one for commercial buildings. That's a different product from what we build. Our agents run in the office, not on the equipment.
What is the best AI for a small home service business?
Start with what your field software already includes, since it already has your data. Add a custom agent only for a task your software doesn't cover, like collections across several companies or a weekly check of ad spend.
Is an AI receptionist a good idea?
For a shop that misses calls, it can be. Jobber, Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan all sell one, and buying from your own software vendor keeps bookings in one place. We don't build receptionists.
Talk it through in 30 minutes
Tell us the one office task you'd hand off first. We'll tell you whether an agent can do it with the data you have, and quote a fixed price after the call. Email us to set up a call, or write to hello@curbandcode.com with "AI agents" in the subject.
We also build websites for roofing companies, design-build remodelers and custom home builders.
